Pasadena Humane Engages in National Pet Preparedness Month
PASADENA, Calif. (June 11, 2025) — June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and in recognition of the importance of pet safety and emergency preparedness, Pasadena Humane is proud to host a week of activities from June 16 to June 22. In light of the recent wildfires that impacted much of Southern California, pet safety remains a crucial point of consideration.
During this weeklong campaign, Pasadena Humane will offer several free services and special promotions designed to help pet owners stay prepared and keep their pets safe in an emergency.
- Free Designer Pet Tags with Licensing: In partnership with DocuPet, Pasadena Humane is offering a free designer tag with every online license or renewal purchased between June 16 to June 22. This promotion is available to all residents within our licensing service area who have licensed, plan to license, or renew their pet licenses through Pasadena Humane. Not only do pet licenses help keep pets safe and compliant with local laws, but they also give owners the chance to express their pet’s personality with a wide selection of brightly colored, high-quality tag designs.
- Free Pet Alert Stickers: As part of the pet preparedness initiative, Pasadena Humane will offer free vinyl pet alert stickers, which help alert rescue personnel that pets are inside the home and can be vital in case of emergency. This giveaway will be available in person at the Shelter Shop from June 16 to June 22.
- Free Microchip Clinic: From June 16 to June 22, Pasadena Humane is providing a free microchip clinic for all residents within the shelter’s animal control service area who own a cat or dog. The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and is by appointment only; appointments are limited. This clinic is supported by the generous sponsorship of Lyn Spector.
- Pet Safety Workshop: On Saturday, June 21, pet owners are invited to a free Pet Safety Workshop. Participants are encouraged to attend, engage, and educate themselves on how to create a pet emergency plan, the essentials needed for a pet “go-bag,” and other critical pet preparedness tips. This workshop will run every hour between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As pet safety takes center stage, pet readiness tips become a key part of overall emergency preparedness. “Emergencies are unpredictable, and it’s vital that pet owners include their animals in their preparedness plans,” says Interim CEO Chris Ramon. “By taking simple steps now, like microchipping, licensing, having an emergency kit ready, and following pet safety tips, pet owners can ensure their pets stay safe and can be easily reunited with them in a crisis.” Essential pet preparedness tips include:
- Make sure your pet has a current ID tag and microchip.
- Add their animals to their household emergency plans.
- Prepare a “go-bag” with essential items such as food, water, medications, and leashes.
- Ensure digital records and pictures are up to date in case of a separation.
- Know the locations of pet-friendly shelters and accommodations in case of an emergency.
