Pasadena Humane Rescues Cats Found In Stolen U-Haul, Waives Adoption Fees To Encourage Feline Adoptions

PASADENA, Calif. (June 20, 2025) In response to a recent case involving 19 adult cats found living in deplorable conditions in a stolen U-Haul truck, Pasadena Humane is taking swift action to both rescue these animals and promote adoptions for cats and kittens. The shocking discovery was made this morning when Monrovia Police responded to reports of the stolen vehicle, only to find the cats living in filth, surrounded by feces and maggots.

Upon towing the U-Haul, authorities opened the back to reveal the horrifying conditions the cats were enduring. Pasadena Humane’s Animal Control Officers were immediately contacted, and the dedicated team of animal welfare professionals – including veterinary staff – mobilized to assess and intake the animals. This case is currently under investigation. Pasadena Humane continues to work diligently to ensure the well-being of these cats.

As kennel spaces are currently filling, Pasadena Humane is launching a limited-time promotion effective immediately: adoption fees for all available cats and kittens will be waived through Sunday, June 22. This initiative aims to help make room for the intake of these rescued cats by encouraging the community to open their hearts and homes.

“It’s crucial for people to reach out before a situation gets out of control, as early intervention is key to preventing future crises,” said Chris Ramon, the Interim President and CEO of Pasadena Humane. “We hope that by waiving adoption fees, we can find loving homes for our current adoptable cat population and make room for those who need our care.”

Pasadena Humane encourages the community to open kennels for these rescued cats by adopting a cat or kitten currently at the shelter, or by making a donation online to support these cats’ specific care at pasadenahumane.org/19cats.
