Meet Jack Henry Hilands

Meet Jack Henry Hilands

We adopted Rosie, a Jack Russell Terrier, at Pasadena Humane, July of 2025. Her name given by Pasadena Humane was “Scully”. On the day we adopted her she had just gotten spayed that morning. She was very forlorn and that is what her picture looked like online. Her eyes were cloudy and they said she was 7 years old and blind. We still adopted her and I got right to work on making her life better. I never wanted to see her sad again!

First thing I did was to do a DNA test with Embark. When her test came back it showed her to be 3 years old! It also showed her parents and siblings. We name her Rosie Wilma Hilands and we found out she was a full breed Jack Russell Terrier! I even got her date of birth which is February 6, 2022. Within the next week we took her to Pasadena Eye Care. Her diagnosis was cataracts. Very common for Jack Russell Terriers. September 10, 2025 was her eye surgery. We were so excited that she would actually get her sight back! Not to mention this surgery is VERY expensive, but so worth it to give her a new life with sight! It is now February 2026 and Rosie is doing swell.

We even took her back to Pasadena Humane on February 24th to show everyone how well she is doing. My husband decided to take a look at the dogs while I stayed with Rosie outside. My husband comes out and says, “you are not going to believe the dog they have”. Red Dachshund!!!! The dog we always wanted! Unbelievable!!! We got our beautiful boy that next day and we named him Jack Henry Hilands.

Now we have the best of both worlds, a Dachshund and Jack Russell! Thank you Pasadena Humane for taking great care of all the dogs in your care.
