Eaton Fire Survivor Biggs Finds His New Home

Last January, just two days after the Eaton Fire began, Biggs arrived at Pasadena Humane for emergency boarding. Like so many others, his family had evacuated their Altadena residence, unsure of what the future would hold. And although many of the animals we took in for emergency boarding were eventually reunited with their loved ones, sadly, Biggs was never able to return home.

Biggs clearly had a lot of love to give, but he was often fearful around new people. Our amazing Behavior team worked with him regularly, helping him build relationships with strangers through gradual introductions and lots of positive reinforcement. Slowly, Biggs began to build bonds with many our staff and volunteers. And as time went on, even new people began to witness this gentle boy’s cuddly, affectionate personality. He went on fun field trips, he attended our Hidden Gems pop-up adoption events, and he was a star in all our photo shoots. After many months, he was such a different dog than the one who had walked through our doors.

Although Biggs had come a long way, he still needed a very special adopter—someone who had lots of love in their heart for a dog who had been through so much. And that’s when Nadine happened to come across one of our TikToks of an adorable dog lying on his back in our training room and enjoying belly rubs. She knew she had to meet him… and the rest is history.
Exactly one year to the day since the Eaton Fire began, and nearly a full year since he entered our care, Biggs finally got adopted. The anniversary of the fires brought up lots of heavy emotions, but Biggs’ adoption was a bright spot of joy after going through such a long journey with us.
Now named Oso Chismoso Biggs, this precious boy is already so cherished. He has a giant memory foam dog bed and all the dog toys he could ever want. Nadine is absolutely in love with her “big baby”, and we are beyond thrilled for his beautiful new life.
