Fill Your Heart with a New Companion from Pasadena Humane
Pasadena Humane is celebrating Heart Health Month with an adoption promotion highlighting the health benefits of pet ownership. Adoption fees for all dogs and cats over six months old will be reduced to $14 from February 8 – 18.
Studies show that interacting with a pet is beneficial to our health. According to Alex Durairaj, MD, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services at Huntington Health, “Adopting a pet can absolutely promote health, both physically and mentally. I tell my patients, dog walks for at least 30 minutes a day can significantly improve heart health. Even just having a pet at home can reduce stress in our lives, which is important for our cardiovascular health.”
Pets not only reduce stress, but they also lower their owner’s blood pressure and provide a sense of purpose and joy. Whether it’s the comfort we feel from canine cuddles, the soothing purr of cats, or the quirky antics of critters that make us laugh, pets provide so many benefits to our cardiovascular health.
“The love and joy that a pet brings is immeasurable,” says Dia DuVerent, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane. “Adopting a pet is literally and figuratively good for your heart!”
Adoption appointments are released every Wednesday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Walk-in adoptions are also available from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. daily, starting February 5.
