Pasadena Humane Announces Renewals of City Contracts for Animal Control Services
Pasadena Humane is pleased to announce that the cities of Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, South Pasadena, San Marino, La Cañada-Flintridge, Sierra Madre, and Bradbury have all approved five-year contracts for animal care and control services with Pasadena Humane beginning July 1, 2021.
These contracts are the result of ongoing negotiations to standardize services across the cities and reach fair terms for all parties.
“We’ve come to a mutual agreement that will allow Pasadena Humane to continue to provide its unparalleled services for the community it has served for well over 100 years,” said Dia DuVernet, president and CEO of Pasadena Humane. “Pasadena Humane greatly appreciates these cities for seeing the value in the high-quality, lifesaving care we provide.”
Pasadena Humane was obligated to increase fees for animal care and control due to rising costs associated with achieving the community’s expected standards of care in sheltering and live outcomes. While city contracts have increased by Consumer Price Index (CPI) over decades, best practices in animal care and sheltering have evolved exponentially.
The shelter’s robust adoption programs, behavior training and veterinary services lead to healthy animals and thousands of adoptions each year, helping Pasadena Humane achieve a live release rate of more than 91 percent for companion animals by placing 100% of safe and healthy animals.
“Pasadena Humane has a vested interest in serving our community because we believe we can provide the best outcomes for the animals in need of care,” said DuVernet. “These contracts are core to our mission of leading the way towards a compassionate and caring community for all animals.”
A notable change in the contracts is that Pasadena Humane will now retain all pet licensing fees. It is Pasadena Humane’s hope this will encourage more pet owners to comply with local licensing ordinances, knowing that the fees help to support Pasadena Humane services.
As a socially conscious shelter, Pasadena Humane accepts animals from contract cities, regardless of health, age, breed, behavior, or other criteria. Pasadena Humane employs four veterinarians and seven behavior specialists, which allows the shelter to assist medically or behaviorally challenged animals – making sure no animal is left behind.
