Pasadena Humane Invites Community to Give Shelter Dogs a Holiday Getaway With Fourth of July Foster Sleepover

This Independence Day, Pasadena Humane is inviting animal lovers to make a difference in the lives of shelter pets through a special Fourth of July Foster Sleepover program. Made possible by the generous support of the Trisha & Heidi Muse Hug Fund, this festive short-term fostering opportunity gives large dogs a chance to spend the holiday weekend in a home environment.

The event is designed to provide shelter dogs with a much-needed break while giving community members the opportunity to experience the joys of fostering without a long-term commitment. Pasadena Humane’s Foster team will provide all necessary supplies, guidance, and support to ensure a successful sleepover experience.

The Fourth of July can be especially challenging for pets, as fireworks often cause animals to panic and run away from home. By having dogs safely cared for in foster homes, the shelter also gains the opportunity to better prepare for the influx of lost and stray pets that typically occurs over the holiday weekend.

“Fireworks can be overwhelming for animals, especially in a shelter. Spending a few days in a home environment can make a tremendous difference for a dog’s well-being,” said Pasadena Humane’s Senior Director of Placement, Marissa Sunny. “These holiday sleepovers provide comfort, enrichment, and valuable information about a dog’s personality outside the shelter, all while helping them gain visibility with potential adopters.”

Pre-registration is required and will be open June 19–30, or until all spots are filled. Registered participants may pick up their foster dog as early as July 2. Dogs can be returned after the holiday weekend, though foster caregivers are always welcome to extend their stay or choose to adopt.

This special foster opportunity is ideal for community members who may not be ready to adopt but still want to provide meaningful support to a shelter pet. Even a short stay outside the shelter can help reduce stress, improve behavior, and increase an animal’s chances of finding a forever home.
