Newly Named Petco Love Invests in Lifesaving Work of Pasadena Humane

Grant of $10,000 will help save more pet lives in Greater Los Angeles Area

Pasadena, Calif (April 20, 2021) – Pasadena Humane announced today a $10,000 grant investment from the newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The funds will be allocated to dog kennel improvements projects including repairs and the installation of portals in all dog kennels at the Raymond Avenue shelter.

Portalization is a cutting edge animal welfare practice that allows dogs access to a double kennel by installing “portals” between two kennels. The added space means that while a dog is at the shelter, they are more likely to express normal and natural behaviors, like eating and eliminating away from where they rest.

“Thank you to Petco Love for their generous support of our lifesaving work,” said Dia DuVernet, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane. “These funds will improve the comfort level for all dogs while they are in our care. Not only do portals allow dogs to express natural behaviors, but they help reduce stress-related illness and behaviors, all of which means that dogs at our shelter will now find new homes more quickly. ”

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with nearly $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Pasadena Humane and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. This month, we will also launch the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”
