Love is Blooming at Pasadena Humane

PASADENA, Calif. (May 2, 2023) – Love is blooming like wildflowers at Pasadena Humane this spring as the shelter announces a promotion targeted at people hoping to “grow their families” by adopting a pet. The shelter’s Love is Blooming adoption promotion aims to find homes for large dogs by reducing adoption fees for all dogs over forty pounds to just $25 from May 4 –10.

“Springtime is historically a time when pet adoptions slow down,” said Dia Duvernet, President and CEO of Pasadena Humane. “We hope to nip that trend in the bud and find wonderful homes for some of our bigger and often overlooked dogs through this promotion.”

The shelter has many large dogs available and the percentage of dogs over forty pounds far outweighs the small ones. Many of the larger dogs are also eligible for a “Foster to Adopt” trial adoption period, which allows families a ten-day period with the dog before deciding to finalize their adoption.

“An overabundance of large dogs in shelters is a nationwide issue right now,” explains DuVernet. “It is often very difficult for people who have big dogs to find housing, and the trickle-down effect is that more large dogs end up displaced. Shelters all over are impacted.”

Dog adoptions are by appointment at Pasadena Humane. All dog adoptions include spay or neuter, a microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines. The regular adoption screening process applies to this promotion. To view adoptable dogs and make an adoption appointment, visit pasadenahumane.org.
