AARP California Hosts “Free Pet Adoption Day” at Pasadena Humane

PASADENA, Calif. (November 7, 2022) – Pasadena Humane and AARP California will celebrate Adopt a Senior Pet Month with a “Free Pet Adoption Day” on Saturday, November 12, from 10 AM – 2 PM. The event, dubbed PawsConnect: Matching Older Paws with Older People™, is expected to find homes for many of the animals in the shelter’s care.

Adoption fees will be waived for all available animals at Pasadena Humane. AARP California will be onsite with free giveaways. Shelter staff will be on hand to provide information about programs and services like dog training, pet licensing, planned giving, and more!

“We are very grateful that AARP values the human-animal bond and will join us in helping find homes for the animals in our care,” says Dia Duvernet, President and CEO of Pasadena Humane. “We have pets of all ages at the shelter, but it’s important to highlight the ‘Older Paws,’ who may be overlooked for adoption.”

It is well documented that pet companionship helps peoples’ quality of life. In fact, a recent study sponsored by AARP found that 88% of pet owners say their pets help them enjoy life, 79% report having reduced stress, and over 60% of pet owners say their pets help keep them physically active and connected with other people.

“Adopting an animal is a win/win,” adds Duvernet. “An adopted pet will be grateful for their new people who in turn will enjoy the pet’s companionship and may reap health benefits to boot!”

People of all ages are invited to adopt any of the available pets at the shelter for no fee at this event. Adoptions include spay or neuter, a microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines. No appointment is necessary. Regular adoption screening applies.
