Pasadena Humane Rescues 38 Cats From Trailer
Cats saved from hoarding situation will be put up for adoption
PASADENA, Calif. (June 30, 2023) – -Pasadena Humane rescued more than 38 cats and kittens from a stationary travel trailer in Monrovia today. The cats were living in cramped and unsanitary conditions inside a very small space with no air conditioning.
During the operation, Pasadena Humane staff worked to safely remove the cats from the home. The cats were transported back to the shelter, where they received medical exams before being placed into clean kennels with food, water, and fresh bedding.
Some of the cats are suffering from symptoms of upper respiratory but are in overall stable condition. The cats are now under the supervision of a veterinarian and are being provided with needed medical care. Fortunately, most of the cats appear to be friendly.
“I am happy to report that all the cats found living in the trailer are now safely in our care,” said Dia DuVernet, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane. “Pasadena Humane is here to provide food, shelter and care for animals in need, and these cats certainly needed our help.”
The healthy cats will be made available for adoption immediately. The cats will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going to their new homes.
“We are deep into our busy season right now, and our cat center is very full. We are anticipating even more animals coming in over the 4th of July holiday,” added DuVernet. “With the busy summer upon us, resources are stretched to the limit. We really need our community’s help to find homes for all the cats and help support their care.”

An Update on the 38 Cats (July 5, 2023) – –
Many of the youngest kittens are severely emaciated. Sadly, despite medical intervention, one very sick kitten did not make it through the night. Five of the remaining most fragile kittens were placed in a foster home to help with their care. Their foster mom tells us, “One of them wants to be petted so badly, but you feel like you’ll break him.” A few of the other kittens are terrified, having experienced so much trauma in their short lives.
The rest of the cats and kittens from the trailer continue to receive care and attention at the shelter. Unfortunately, over the weekend, one of the kittens tested positive for panleukopenia, a highly contagious viral disease that is often deadly for young cats. The poor kitten made it to us in the nick of time. Without veterinary treatment, it is unlikely he would have survived.
Our skilled medical team has been working hard to provide him with the necessary fluids and medications that he needs to fight the virus, all while taking precautions not to infect the other animals at the shelter. All of the cats from the trailer have now been placed in quarantine to ensure that they stay healthy before moving on to their new homes.
We are heartbroken to see the state that these cats are in, and they still need so much care before they are ready to be adopted. With the busy summer upon us, resources are stretched thin. We are counting on friends like you for support during this difficult time.
