Kitten Rescued from Car’s Grille After 25-Mile Trip

Eight-week old calico kitten Brandy survived a harrowing experience when she hitched a ride inside the front grille of a car that traveled all the way from Compton to the Glendale Galleria—nearly 25 miles—with her inside.

Upon arrival in Glendale, the driver of the car investigated noises that were coming from the front of the car, and was stunned to realize a kitten was inside. The Glendale Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene to free the trapped cat. The crew of Truck 21 carefully disassembled the grille and delicately extracted little Brandy, taking great care to keep her safe (while also causing no damage to the car).

When she arrived at Pasadena Humane, our veterinary team gave Brandy a thorough health exam to check for any injuries. And although she was covered in dirt from the car, she was miraculously unharmed. Our staff gave Brandy a much-needed bath and a cozy kennel in our Neely Cat Center where she could rest and recover.

Shortly thereafter, little Brandy’s confident, adventurous spirit charmed her adopter, and we were soon celebrating her joyous adoption day. We’re glad that Brandy’s adventuring now involves much safer activities like pouncing on toys and exploring her new home. Thank you to our friends at the Glendale Fire Department for coming to Brandy’s rescue and making her happy adoption story possible!
