Meet Ghost

Hi there, I wanted to send an update on the dog I adopted last summer, now officially named Ghost. His name was Hansel at the shelter, and his sister Gretel had already been adopted.
I originally came in planning to adopt a cat during kitten season, but while waiting, I saw him in his kennel, emaciated and in rough shape. We had just lost our older Akita and weren’t sure we were ready for another dog yet, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Something about his sweet demeanor reminded me of our old boy. I wasn’t sure if I would be his permanent home; I just knew I needed to get him out and get him medical care and some good meals.
Ghost is doing so much better now. He came to us very fearful and showed signs of abandonment anxiety. At first, he struggled with resource guarding and even attacked our other dog, but with patience and time, he’s made huge progress. Our other dog absolutely loves him and has helped bring him out of his shell, especially when toys are involved. His favorite thing in the world is tennis balls! He was terrified of being kenneled at first and fought it hard, but now it’s his safe place when he feels overwhelmed or just wants quiet time.
His initial bloodwork showed anemia, and once he gained strength, he had a dental to remove some painful teeth. The vet found several cracked and discolored teeth, likely from chewing on metal bars, but he’s comfortable and healthy now!
What started as a possible foster quickly turned into forever; he’s bonded to us and to his sister, and he isn’t going anywhere. Thank you for helping him get another chance!
