Specialized Spay/Neuter Services You Can Trust Near South Pasadena, CA

What sets our spay and neuter program apart is simple: Our surgeons perform these procedures exclusively, day in and day out. This singular focus creates a level of proficiency that general practice veterinarians, who must balance surgical procedures with appointments, lab work, and emergency cases, simply cannot match. The results speak for themselves: Most pets spend less than 15 minutes under anesthesia due to our surgeons' efficiency and precision, which means lower risk and quicker recovery for your South Pasadena, CA, companion. Every animal receives individualized attention from a dedicated veterinary technician and veterinarian who monitor them closely throughout the entire surgical experience. We're committed to transparency, so if our team identifies any factors that might make your pet a higher surgical risk or determines they would benefit from a full-service clinic with more extensive resources, we'll discuss those concerns with you openly. Our all-inclusive pricing also eliminates financial surprises, so the cost remains the same whether your pet is pregnant, in heat, or dealing with conditions like pyometra or umbilical hernias. Schedule your pet's spay or neuter surgery today and experience the difference that specialized expertise makes.

Specialized expertise you can trust

Our surgeons perform spay/neuter surgeries all day, every day—leading to exceptional skill and fewer complications.

Experienced surgeons means less anesthesia.  Most pets are under anesthesia for less than 15 minutes, reducing risks and speeding up recovery.

Animals receiving surgery here have a dedicated tech and/or veterinarian monitoring them at each step of the process.

If our veterinarian feels your pet has a higher risk or anesthesia or surgery or would be best served by a clinic with additional tools at their disposal, we don’t hesitate to speak with the owner and make that recommendation.

Keeping South Pasadena, CA, Pets Protected with Essential Vaccines

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect your pet from diseases that can cause lasting harm or even death. These preventative treatments train your pet's immune system to recognize and fight off specific pathogens, either preventing infection entirely or significantly reducing the severity of illness if exposure occurs. South Pasadena, CA, dogs need core vaccines, including rabies and DA2PP, along with additional protection against Bordetella (kennel cough), canine influenza, and leptospirosis, all of which pose risks in our region. For cats, rabies and FVRCP vaccines provide crucial defense against the most prevalent and dangerous feline diseases. Beyond protecting your individual pet, vaccination helps create a healthier community by reducing the overall prevalence of contagious diseases that can spread through South Pasadena's neighborhoods, parks, and pet-friendly spaces. Book your pet’s vaccination appointment today to develop a customized vaccination plan that addresses your pet's age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Vaccination Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I vaccinate my pet? How do vaccines work, and how do they help my dog/cat?

Vaccines can help your pet in two ways – they can prevent your pet from contracting a deadly disease or they can make the clinical signs of a disease much less severe. Many of these diseases have life long or deadly consequences – and once a pet has been infected, it is too late to treat.

Vaccines help all of the pets in the community by  reducing the occurrence of disease – less sick pets means less viruses and diseases being shed and contaminating the areas where our pets spend time.

How often do I need to vaccinate my pet?

This depends on the age of the pet and the pet’s lifestyle. Kittens/puppies should be vaccinated every 2-3 weeks until they are 4-5 months old. While some vaccines in adults (such as rabies or distemper) can often provide immunity for 3 years, others such as kennel cough or influenza may need to be repeated as often as 6 months depending on your pet’s lifestyle.

We recommend checking in on the average adult pet’s vaccines yearly to make sure everything is up to date unless your pet spends a lot of time at boarding facilities, dog parks or day cares.

What are the most important vaccines my pet needs? Are there other vaccines I should also consider?

The American Animal Hospital Association recommends the following core vaccines for dogs: Rabies (required by law) and DA2PP. Other recommended vaccines for our area: Bordetella (kennel cough), Canine influenza, and Leptospirosis.

For felines, Rabies (required by law) and FVRCP are recommended.

Are vaccines painful, and do they cause any side effects?

Most pets don’t notice the vaccines being administered at all – especially when we distract them with some ear scratches or some treats. The most common side effects include a small swelling at the injection site which subsides after a week or so. Some pets might be a little tired, not want to eat quite as much or be a little tender at the site of the injection. A pet may even occasionally vomit or have some diarrhea – this is normal as their immune systems are mounting a response to a perceived disease threat.

There are occasionally more serious allergic reactions consistent with anaphylactic shock – difficulty breathing, severe vomiting/diarrhea, collapse. Pets with immune diseases may have their disease triggered by a vaccine. These typically happen within 10 minutes of being vaccinated.

Microchipping

During your pet’s spay/neuter, we offer microchipping free of charge. Microchipping is a simple, non-surgical procedure that is a customary practice that can reduce the number of lost pets and reunite owners with missing pets.

Ensure Your Pet’s Safe Return with Microchipping Services

Microchipping offers South Pasadena, CA, pet owners invaluable peace of mind by providing a permanent form of identification that cannot be lost, removed, or damaged. The microchip itself is a small electronic device, roughly the size of a single grain of rice, that a veterinarian implants beneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades using a process similar to a routine vaccination. Collars can break, tags can fall off, and even the most careful pet owners can find themselves facing the heartbreak of a missing companion. However, with microchipping, when someone finds your lost pet anywhere in the United States, the unique identification number links them directly to your contact information. At Pasadena Humane, we've made microchipping accessible and affordable as part of our commitment to keeping South Pasadena, CA, pets safe and reunited with their families. However, the system only functions properly when owners maintain accurate contact details in the registry, so remember to update your information whenever you move, change phone numbers, or modify your email address. Schedule a microchipping appointment with us and give your beloved companion the best chance of coming home safely if they ever wander away.
