Keep Your Glendale, CA, Pet Protected with Low-Cost Vaccines

Protecting your Glendale, CA, dog or cat with proper vaccinations is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure a long, healthy life for them. Vaccines work by either preventing your pet from contracting dangerous diseases or significantly reducing the severity if exposure happens. Many of these illnesses carry lifelong consequences or can be fatal, making prevention far better than attempting treatment after infection occurs. Your pet's vaccination schedule depends on their age and how much time they spend around other animals; puppies and kittens need vaccines every few weeks until around five months old, while adult pets generally benefit from annual reviews to keep everything current. More frequent boosters are recommended if your pet frequents dog parks, daycare, or boarding facilities. The vaccination process itself is quick and well-tolerated, with most pets barely noticing the injection, especially when our team provides plenty of treats and affection as distractions. To keep your Glendale, CA, pet protected with up-to-date vaccines, book an appointment at our low-cost clinic today.

Vaccination Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I vaccinate my pet? How do vaccines work, and how do they help my dog/cat?

Vaccines can help your pet in two ways – they can prevent your pet from contracting a deadly disease or they can make the clinical signs of a disease much less severe. Many of these diseases have life long or deadly consequences – and once a pet has been infected, it is too late to treat.

Vaccines help all of the pets in the community by  reducing the occurrence of disease – less sick pets means less viruses and diseases being shed and contaminating the areas where our pets spend time.

How often do I need to vaccinate my pet?

This depends on the age of the pet and the pet’s lifestyle. Kittens/puppies should be vaccinated every 2-3 weeks until they are 4-5 months old. While some vaccines in adults (such as rabies or distemper) can often provide immunity for 3 years, others such as kennel cough or influenza may need to be repeated as often as 6 months depending on your pet’s lifestyle.

We recommend checking in on the average adult pet’s vaccines yearly to make sure everything is up to date unless your pet spends a lot of time at boarding facilities, dog parks or day cares.

What are the most important vaccines my pet needs? Are there other vaccines I should also consider?

The American Animal Hospital Association recommends the following core vaccines for dogs: Rabies (required by law) and DA2PP. Other recommended vaccines for our area: Bordetella (kennel cough), Canine influenza, and Leptospirosis.

For felines, Rabies (required by law) and FVRCP are recommended.

Are vaccines painful, and do they cause any side effects?

Most pets don’t notice the vaccines being administered at all – especially when we distract them with some ear scratches or some treats. The most common side effects include a small swelling at the injection site which subsides after a week or so. Some pets might be a little tired, not want to eat quite as much or be a little tender at the site of the injection. A pet may even occasionally vomit or have some diarrhea – this is normal as their immune systems are mounting a response to a perceived disease threat.

There are occasionally more serious allergic reactions consistent with anaphylactic shock – difficulty breathing, severe vomiting/diarrhea, collapse. Pets with immune diseases may have their disease triggered by a vaccine. These typically happen within 10 minutes of being vaccinated.

Microchipping

During your pet’s spay/neuter, we offer microchipping free of charge. Microchipping is a simple, non-surgical procedure that is a customary practice that can reduce the number of lost pets and reunite owners with missing pets.

Have Lifelong Peace of Mind with Pet Microchipping Services

For Glendale, CA, pet owners, microchipping offers peace of mind knowing that if your beloved companion ever gets lost, they have a permanent form of identification that can bring them safely home. Unlike collars and ID tags that can slip off during an adventure or become illegible over time, a microchip remains with your pet throughout their entire life, providing foolproof identification that works whether they're found in Glendale, CA, across California, or anywhere in the country. The microchipping procedure takes just moments and can be performed during your pet's spay or neuter surgery or as a quick standalone service during any clinic visit. Once the tiny chip is implanted, your pet's unique identification number gets registered in a national database linked to your contact information, allowing any veterinary clinic or animal shelter with a scanner to identify your pet and contact you immediately. Maintaining current contact information in the registry is critical, so whenever you move or change phone numbers, take a moment to update those details to ensure the system can reunite you with your pet. Don't wait until it's too late; book an appointment now and bring your Glendale, CA, pet to our Pasadena clinic for microchipping.
