This poor little dog has been through so much. Las This poor little dog has been through so much. Last week, a bystander witnessed the barely four-pound Maltese being thrown from a car. The terrified pup was then struck by a different car before scrambling into a nearby yard, where he was bitten by a dog. The concerned bystander rushed him to an emergency vet, where he was able to be stabilized before being transported to our ICU. Sadly, the little dog had suffered a spinal injury and couldn't even move his back legs—and for the first day in our care, couldn't urinate on his own. He also had multiple broken ribs, bruising on his skin and internal organs, and a laceration on his side. Over the next critical days, our veterinary team carefully changed the bandages that supported the little dog's injured ribs, administered antibiotics for his bite wound, and provided pain medication to keep him comfortable. He was in rough shape, and we weren't sure what the future would hold for him. But miraculously, as the days went by, he began to show some improvement. He started to urinate on his own using the pee pads in his kennel, his appetite improved, and he often wagged his tiny tail when he saw his favorite staff members. And one day, he even stood on all four legs without support for the first time. As his injuries continue to heal, his adorable personality gets bigger and bigger. He loves giving kisses to our staff during his exams and bandage changes. He's even becoming a bit of a fashionista with his stylish hairdos (which, for practical purposes, help keep his long fur out of his eyes so he can see) and decorative bandages that bring happiness and light to a dog with such a tragic backstory. This sweet little pup's injuries were severe, and he still has many weeks of healing to go, but it's incredible how different he looks today because of the critical care provided by our veterinary team.
Artemis has been in our care for over a year. Now, Artemis has been in our care for over a year. Now, he’s looking for a loving home. Artemis is a three-year-old Swiss Shepherd whose family had to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender him after being impacted by the Eaton Fire. Artemis needs a little time to get to know new people, but once you’re in his inner circle, you’ll see his silly, playful personality truly shine!
Over the weekend, a good Samaritan spotted these t Over the weekend, a good Samaritan spotted these two tiny baby kittens on the side of the road in South Pasadena. They were cold and shivering, and unfortunately, there was no mother cat nearby. The good Samaritan brought the kittens to Pasadena Humane, where we quickly warmed them up in our incubator and gave them kitten formula. We estimated these kittens were two weeks old, which means their eyes had probably just opened only a few days prior! At such a young age, kittens need to eat every three to four hours. These two little ones were soon picked up by one of our amazing foster volunteers, who is providing them with the round-the-clock care they need. We are so grateful for our bottle baby fosters, especially as we enter one of our busiest times of year - kitten season! Now is the purrfect time to get involved with fostering! If you want to learn more (and sign up to foster!), come to our free Kitten Shower this Saturday, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pasadena Humane (🔗 in 🅱️ ℹ️ 🅾️ for all the details!).
On Monday, we had two 3-month-old puppies arrive i On Monday, we had two 3-month-old puppies arrive in our care covered in hundreds of ticks. The parasites were lodged deep inside their ears, tucked painfully between their little toes, and scattered all across their fur. We brought them straight to the ICU, where our medical team carefully went to work, removing each tick one by one. It took patience, precision, and a whole lot of care to make sure these puppies were finally free from the painful infestation covering their bodies. Today, we’re happy to report that these sweet pups are feeling so much better. With the ticks gone and lots of love from our staff, they’re already acting like the playful, happy puppies they were meant to be. Suffering animals come into our care every day, many in need of urgent need of medical care and lifesaving resources. Your gift today helps ensure that when animals like these pups come through our doors, our veterinary team is ready.
