Elderly Poodle Recovering After Being Struck by Car in Pasadena

An eleven-year-old poodle is receiving intensive care at Pasadena Humane after being struck by a car near Sierra Madre Boulevard and Corson Street on Tuesday.

A good Samaritan witnessed the collision and rushed the injured dog to a nearby emergency veterinary hospital. From there, Animal Control Officer Greg Murphy transported him to the shelter’s ICU, where our veterinarians discovered a severely fractured jaw.

The dog was sedated so the veterinary team could take x-rays and stabilize the injury. Using sutures and small medical buttons—a method recently employed on other shelter patients—the team was able to hold the jaw in proper alignment while still allowing the dog to eat and swallow during recovery. Healing is expected to take several weeks.

Despite his injuries, the small white poodle is now stable and resting in the shelter’s ICU. He had no collar, ID tag, or microchip, leaving staff unsure of his origins.

“This little guy has survived incredible odds,” said Officer Murphy. “We’re hopeful we can reunite him with his family—or find him a loving home—once he’s fully recovered.”
