Barks and Books @ Lamanda Park Branch Library

Barks and Books is our reading enrichment program for children ages 5 to 12 that makes reading fun, boosts confidence and encourages respectful, humane treatment for all animals. It offers children the opportunity to read animal related short stories of their choice to dogs in our Companion Animal Program.

Puppy Social Session @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA's Behavior & Training Center

A drop in social hour for puppies between the ages of 2-6 months. This is the perfect opportunity to get your puppy socialized with other puppies in a safe and structured environment. Play interactions are managed and supervised by our trainers to ensure all puppies leave with a new positive experience.

Please arrive early to sign in. Doors open at 9:20 a.m.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per session; limited sessions are offered during the year

Class includes: Off leash supervised play and socialization with other puppies.

Fees: $10.00

Class capacity: No Limit

Waggin’ @ Jackalope Arts Fair @ Central Park

If you spot a green and white 35’ RV driving to a community event, you have discovered our Wiggle Waggle Wagon (The Waggin’). It extends the boundaries and hours of our organization by visiting events and places in the Los Angeles area. Our “shelter on wheels” is known for bringing a selection of adoptable dogs and cats, as well as current information on our spay/neuter services, area wildlife and PHS programs and services.

Animal Adventurers: Do You Want to Be a Veterinarian?

Does your child love creatures great and small? Kids 8 to 12 years old are invited to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA for a hands-on introduction to working as a veterinarian or vet tech.

In this workshop, kids will get a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter clinic and observe a routine animal health check by a registered veterinary technician. Children will learn how to detect pet health emergencies and get to ask questions to Veterinary Staff!

Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s largest national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. The nationwide event is a powerful reminder not to let children idle away their summer, but, instead, focus on physical and mental play.

Healthy Kids Day is a free community event to help parents begin thinking about ways to keep their kids both physically and cognitively active this summer. It is the largest event of its kind in the nation, taking place at more than 1,500 Ys across the U.S.

Join the Pasadena Humane Society as we celebrate healthy kids with animal crafts, coloring and trivia.

Puppy Pre-School Session @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA's Education & Training Center

For puppies less than 4 months of age only. This class is designed for puppies under 4 months of age and allows owners to take advantage of their puppy’s critical socialization period. Puppies will learn how to respond to their name, get used to being handled and groomed and introduced to walking on leash. They will be introduced to everyday objects, obstacles and other stimulation that will equip them into the next stage of life. Puppies will also have the opportunity to socialize with other puppies in a safe and well managed environment. Owners will be given vital information on early prevention of problem behaviors such as mouthing, biting and house soiling.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks

Class includes: Homework, Problem Solving Handouts, and Certificate of Completion

Class capacity: 10 students

Course prerequisites: Dogs must be under 4 months of age on their first week of class and have had their first round of vaccinations 7 days prior to the start of class.You must provide proof of vaccination prior to the first day of class.
