Pasadena Humane Society teams up with NBC4 and Telemundo 52 for a day long adoption event

New social media campaign #LoveMyPet/#AmoAMiMascota kicks off on @NBCLA and @Telemundo52

PASADENA, Calif. (July 31, 2017) – – The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, along with over 60 Southern California animal shelters and rescue groups, is participating in the 3rd annual “NBC4 and Telemundo 52 Clear the Shelters,” a pet adoption campaign spearheaded by both stations. On Saturday, August 19, the adoption fee for all animals will be reduced to $20 and the shelter will hold extended adoption hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Clear the Shelters raises awareness about the benefits of pet adoption and aims to reduce the animal overpopulation at local shelters. During the month-long campaign, the stations will cover news stories to spotlight the issue, including the importance of spaying/neutering, the benefits of micro-chipping, and helping families find the right pet for their homes.

“We are beyond thrilled to partner with NBC4 Southern California and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles for the third year running,” said Julie Bank, President/CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society. “Last year more than 60 pets found new homes on Clear the Shelters day. We hope even more animals will be adopted this year.”

The campaign culminates on August 19 when the stations broadcast live on NBC4’s Today in LA at 7 a.m. and Telemundo 52 at shelters throughout the Southland, and continue the coverage all day. News anchors and reporters will be present at several shelters to celebrate with families and their new pets. The evening newscasts will recap the day with success stories and highlights. Additionally, VCA Animal Hospitals health teams will be at the shelters to offer a limited health guarantee and a certificate for a free first exam to all new pet owners to ensure a healthy start.

“Last year’s success resulted in more than 8,200 animals finding forever homes locally and we’re thrilled to continue the effort to help many more homeless animals,” said NBC4 President and General Manager Steve Carlston. “NBC4 is proud to help make such an impact for this important cause.”

“We look forward to launching the effort for the third year and seeing thousands of people in Southern California come together for a single day of action,” said Celia Chavez, President and General Manager of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles. “I encourage everyone to join us and help ‘Clear the Shelters’ and give thousands of homeless animals the chance of a new life.”

The stations’ new social media campaign will engage the broader community throughout the campaign period by inviting them to post photos of their pets on all social media platforms and share why they love them using #LoveMyPet / #AmoAMiMascota and #ClearTheShelters / #DesocuparLosAlbergues.
