Puppy Social Session @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA's Behavior & Training Center
Jul 30 @ 9:30 am – 10:30 am

A drop in social hour for puppies between the ages of 2-6 months. This is the perfect opportunity to get your puppy socialized with other puppies in a safe and structured environment. Play interactions are managed and supervised by our trainers to ensure all puppies leave with a new positive experience.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per session; limited sessions are offered during the year

Class includes: Off leash supervised play and socialization with other puppies.

Fees: $8.00 for currently enrolled students; $10.00 for general public

Class capacity: No Limit

Reactive Rovers: Large Dog Classes Begin @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Education & Training Center

For dogs over 40 lbs, any age. Our large dog Reactive Rovers specialty course is designed for dogs that bark at other dogs while on leash. Over five weeks, we will discuss reasons for dog reactivity and teach you how to respond when your dog becomes over-stimulated. While in our modified group class setting, we’ll teach and practice basic obedience cues including sit, down, stay and more. Opportunities will be given for you to work with your dog around distractions while desensitizing your dog to other dogs in class.

Date & Time: Saturdays, July 30th – August 27th: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks

Fees: $130 for general registration; $110 for dogs adopted from PHS; $65 for active PHS volunteers**

Class capacity: 6 students maximum

Class includes: Homework, Problem Solving Handouts, and Certificate of Completion

Intermediate Obedience Classes Begin @ Ayres Hall, Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanical Garden
Aug 1 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Intermediate Obedience builds on the commands your dog learned in our introductory-level classes. This five-week course improves your dog’s mastery of the basics, like sit, down, and loose leash walking. Your pup will also learn new skills, such as the “leave it” command, sitting for petting, prolonged stays, and establishing a more reliable recall.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks

Dates & Times: Mondays, August 1st – 29th: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Fees: $130 for general registration; $110 for dogs adopted from PHS; $65 for active PHS volunteers; $110 Arboretum Members; $65 Active Arboretum Volunteers**

Course prerequisites: Dogs must be able to be handled by a friendly stranger and must be able to work safely around people and other dogs on leash. Successful completion of an introductory-level training course such as Puppy Kindergarten or Basic Obedience.

CLASS IS FULL — Puppy Kindergarten Classes Begin @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Education & Training Center

Puppy Kindergarten is an introductory-level course for puppies 4 to 6 months of age that focuses on puppy socialization and early training. This five-week covers obedience essentials such as sit, down, stay, come and loose leash walking. We will also problem solve typical puppy problem behaviors such as puppy mouthing, chewing, jumping up, and house soiling.

Date & Time: Tuesdays, August 2nd – 30th: 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks

Fees: $130 for general registration; $110 for dogs adopted from PHS; $65 for active PHS volunteers**

Course prerequisites: Dogs must be between the ages of 4 to 6 months and must be able to be handled by a friendly stranger and able to work safely around people and other dogs on leash. Puppies must have their first full round of vaccinations. You must provide proof of vaccinations prior to the first day of class.

This five-week course covers the essentials, including sit, down, stay, come and loose-leash walking. We will also problem solve behaviors such as jumping up, barking, chewing and destruction.

Date & Time: Thursdays, August 4th – September 1st: 5:45pm – 6:45pm

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks.

Puppy Pre-School Session @ Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA's Education & Training Center

For puppies less than 4 months of age only. This class is designed for puppies under 4 months of age and allows owners to take advantage of their puppy’s critical socialization period. Puppies will learn how to respond to their name, get used to being handled and groomed and introduced to walking on leash. They will be introduced to everyday objects, obstacles and other stimulation that will equip them into the next stage of life. Puppies will also have the opportunity to socialize with other puppies in a safe and well managed environment. Owners will be given vital information on early prevention of problem behaviors such as mouthing, biting and house soiling.

Frequency & Duration: 1 hour per week for 5 weeks

Class includes: Homework, Problem Solving Handouts, and Certificate of Completion

Class capacity: 10 students

Course prerequisites: Dogs must be under 4 months of age on their first week of class and have had their first round of vaccinations 7 days prior to the start of class.You must provide proof of vaccination prior to the first day of class.
